One of Leaf Architectures recommended local builders D J Hensher Building & Carpentry Services has been short listed for the 2025 Central Master Builder Awards with one of Leaf Architectures project for a new build house in South Kilworth in Leicestershire.
Our clients lived in the village and acquired this beautiful yet challenging sloping plot which was elevated looking west and dominated by a mature oak tree. Our design approach was to work with the levels by creating a split level design where the tree would retain its presence overlooking the building. The site had significant challenges both the protection of the tree, its roots but also how to design suitable retaining walls and an orientation that maximised the afternoon setting sun but also create a probate garden/terrace to the street side as opposed to being in shadow to the rear. We worked with Second Nature Gardens to create the resulting design and Dan Hensher secured the contract to build which as usual he approached professionally and to a high quality of workmanship across all trades.
The client is in the process of finalising the interior finishes so look forward to seeing the whole project completed and for them to move in a enjoy!
