Whilst this site had planning permission by a previous agent, and whilst the frontage was a comfortable traditional style the layout was unorthodox with upside down living and complicated retaining and compromised connections to the landscape. The owners approached Leaf Architecture to undertake a self build design where the clients were more heavily involved with a simple concept to create two plateaus, one at road level forming a parking courtyard with garage, the upper plateau having a tradition 1.5 storey house (no earth retaining) with a ‘bayfield’ retaining wall to the rear. This design allowed for the traditional family day space (kitchen, dining & living) accessing the garden directly whilst at first floor the master bedroom enjoyed elevated views over the countryside. The application has been recommended approval and hope to develop the construction stage package in the new year and works on site in due course.
