We were recommended by a highly respected local estate agent to a client who wished to develop an attractive site in a sort after village in Leicestershire which had a small 2 bedroom bungalow at the centre of a large 3/4 acre site. The sites topography, current low roofline and proximity to a listed building gave rise to the need to design an ‘inconspicous’ hidden design which was modern yet sympathetic to the site and local vernacular. Working with a supportive local planner at pre-application stage we developed this sub-terrainian design which had the lower ground floor sunked into the retained wild flower meadow with terraced rear garden. The sensitivities of the application meant the application was considered by committee yet all 12 council members overwhelmingly supported and approved the scheme last Autumn, the site is currently for sale waiting for the new owner to hopefully build this stunning modern home.
